Rabies Vaccine

Rabies is caused by animal bites or scratches. The Rabies Vaccine is used to prevent Rabies after a bite from an infected animal. According to the CDC, people who are exposed to or work with animals daily are at high risk and should be given a pre-exposure rabies vaccination. Those people who are exposed and have never been vaccinated should get four doses of the rabies vaccine. The person should also get another shot called rabies immunoglobulin (RIG).Source:CDC.

In addition to administering rabies vaccines, we aim to educate our patients and the community at large. We see our role, especially in this day and age, as one that provides education to our community. That’s what matters most to us.

As a condition of employment, Voyage Medical requires all new hires to be fully educated on rabies and the vaccines for it.

Why is the Rabies Vaccine so important?

If not prevented by vaccination or immediately addressed after an infected animal bite, rabies will be 100% fatal. It can be easily prevented through vaccination. In the United states, rabies can be found in wild animals like racoons, skunks, bats and foxes. It is important to have a series of vaccines after exposure to avoid death. Treatment is provided immediately following an animal bite or as soon as an individual identifies they have been exposed.

Why Are People Vaccine Hesitant

Vaccine hesitancy is a complex issue influenced by misinformation, distrust in healthcare, perceived disease rarity, safety concerns, cultural beliefs, and social networks. Addressing it requires clear communication, community engagement, improved vaccine access, and rebuilding trust in the healthcare system. Public health initiatives can improve vaccination rates and protect communities.
